We are an accredited practice in Charles City and Waverly, Iowa, near the Cedar River. Dr. Frost-Strain started the practice over 25 years ago as a sole veterinarian. Over the years, the practice has gone from a sole veterinarian to a 4-veterinarian practice. This growth has kept us busy, and we are excited to add another veterinarian to our 4-veterinarian team! We welcome veterinarians of all experience levels, including recent graduates, as our veterinarians are enthusiastic to mentor. Dr. Frost-Strain is very excited about the opportunity to mentor veterinarians interested in soft tissue or orthopedic surgery.

Positions Available

Client Service Representative

Our Client Service Representative is expected to check-in/check-out clients, answer phones, review medical records, and communicate with veterinarians and staff. Excellent communication over the phone is vital for appointment reminders, follow-up calls, and with other professionals in general. Knowledge of our hospital’s policies and procedures is essential to your success. Understanding available routine health care and products offered are required to provide knowledgeable advice to our clients.

Veterinary Technician

Avenue of the Saints Animal Hospital is proud to serve Waverly and surrounding areas. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary medicine and friendly, compassionate service.

We are excited to expand our team! Our ideal technician candidate would have at least 1-2 years’ previous experience in veterinary medicine and be comfortable with the following skills: assisting veterinarians during examinations and surgeries, performing laboratory tests, administering medications, and providing general care for animals. Hours of operation: 8:00am – 5:00pm and Saturdays 9:00am-12:00pm

Essential Functions:

  • Able to perform basic animal handling and restraint
  • Be able to accurately position for radiographs
  • Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery
  • Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for outside labs
  • Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights as well as providing client education
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Assist in maintaining practice equipment
  • Assist veterinarian performing surgery
  • Assist veterinarians in any other assigned tasks
  • Maintain cleanliness of surgery suite, treatment area, and exams rooms for all surfaces
  • Support DEA compliance as it relates to the role
  • Any other duties as assigned

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Previous veterinary medicine experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 40 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 40 pounds with assistance
  • Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
  • Computer skills, MS office applications, etc.
